What is Pegs and Jokers?
Pegs and Jokers is an addicting and fast-paced board game that’s similar to the game Sorry® but much more fun! It’s played with anywhere from 2 to 10 players and will leave your friends and family entertained for hours. Each player has a board that interlocks with the player’s board sitting next to them. The objective is to move all five pegs, clockwise around the boards, from your HOME area (the diamond), to your SAFE area (the “L” shape). The first team or individual to have all of their pegs in the SAFE area wins the game.
My parents first learned about Pegs and Jokers while traveling to Mexico. They quickly became addicted to the game and brought some game boards back home to the United States. It wasn’t long until we were all playing Pegs and Jokers and having a great time.
Naturally, being a woodworker, I started having thoughts about how to make my own boards. Most of the Pegs and Jokers game boards that you find on the market are of the home-made variety. They work, but most of them aren’t what I would call a quality product. I wanted to make a “Premium” Pegs and Jokers game board set that had nicer wood, a nicer finish, some beautiful inlays, and nicer pegs.
My wife really liked these acrylic beads so I started with those and designed the boards and peg hole spacing based off the size of the beads. The pegs themselves are made of bamboo which provides good strength and a nice finish.
I wanted to try something a bit different with the inlays so I picked up some crushed mirror glass and turquoise embossing glitter from the local crafts store and mixed it with some epoxy. My wife helped insert the glass into the inlays and I could tell that she was thoroughly enjoying all the sparkles.
They came out beautiful and we were very happy with the results. It almost looks like a polished stone when finished.
